I earned my UC Naturalist certification in 2023 after completing in-depth training on Sacramento ecosystems, resource management, community education, and conservation management.
As part of the naturalist program, we were tasked with a final project. I considered creating a booklet showcasing native flora and fauna. But, decided to challenge myself and step outside of my comfort zone! I wanted to learn how to outline and achieve hands-on environmental restoration. So me and a partner restored native grasses on a bird preserve, allowing the roots to hold in water! This restored and helped stabilize wetland habitat. It was extremely rewarding to see the lake refill and the birds return, and it was a life-changing experience to realize what one person can accomplish.
After receiving my certification, I decided to specialize in nature interpretation.
This process involves communicating and connecting people with the natural world, fostering understanding, appreciation, and stewardship of the environment. It goes beyond simply stating facts and often includes hands-on experiences that inspire ongoing relationships with nature.
I want to host free seasonal classes and fundraisers for non profit organizations, as well as donation based classes for the community.
I hope connecting people with Sacramento‘s outdoor spaces and land history will inspire them to get outside and appreciate and protect our diverse ecosystems. I truly believe that being aware of your natural surroundings can have a profoundly positive impact on Mother Earth and the community!
I grew up on a farm in the Sacramento Delta, which instilled in me a deep love for our urban forests, waterways and ecosystems.
I have also witnessed the devastating effects of overdevelopment, deforestation and a lack of accessible outdoor spaces in our community.
My goal is to create a space for the people of Sacramento to come together to enjoy and learn about these outdoor spaces. It’s important for us to protect these habitats for current and future generations to enjoy. Our city is filled with urban forest waiting to be discovered.
